Why I Switched to Fresh Organic Spices

In Everything But The Kitchen Sink, Lifestyleby Amelia Hyde

I love to cook…

almost as much as I love playing the guitar. Recently I have decided to switch a few things up in my kitchen. This has made a huge difference in the way I prepare meals.   Switching to  Fresh Organic Spices and Herbs is a starting point in my journey to becoming a healthier me.

There has been some question about what is really in the store bought non-organic grains and spices. This has come up in Facebook posts with friends and family.  Naturally, I began to ask myself “What am I feeding my family??” By any means, I am not a know it all, but if there is ANY question about what is in my kitchen, maybe I should consider switching to organic. Can’t go wrong with that!

It’s not like it was a HUGE decision, but considering I live super far from the nearest Fred Meyer ( like 2 hours) I was unsure of how long they would last in my fridge.   Safeway is an option, for organic spices and is closer, however, I prefer Fred Meyer. The way they package the spices seem to stay fresh longer, and they have a huge selection.  I believe I paid less than 3 dollars for each spice.  it seemed kind of steep at the time, but now I can say it was well worth it.

I bought them on September 1st, and they are still good to use 21 days later. Wow! I bought Thyme, Rosemary, Oregano, and Basil. The Basil went fast! That same night I used every leaf of Basil for a homemade pesto sauce I used on flatbread. Which can also be tossed in a pasta. You can find the Pesto Recipe HERE.

I used to think only snobs bought organic. Yes, I admit, I judged! The simple fact that I know there are no harmful pesticides, GMO’s or preservatives is peace of mind.  In addition to that, the flavor of everything I cook is the difference between night and day.  Now, I didn’t have to read up on all the studies and reports to change my mind. For me, it’s as simple as this. If I am not growing it in my own garden, how do I really know what I am ingesting? That is enough for me. I would love to add some links with some more detailed info if anyone has any info to share! Comment below, please!
